When we are are home, the goats are free to roam around and so am I. I can't keep myself from taking pictures of these amazing creatures. I can spend all day staring at their behavior if it wasn't for the cold and the million other things I have to do. Anything that seems like a possible platform is a toy for the kids; the wood shed, the wooden cart, the deck, the downed trees, the stumps and even the inside window sill of their barn. They love to explore and eat whatever the does are eating. They have eaten newspaper, squash seeds, bark, dead grasses and pine cones. Inevitable they have also developed a "chicken food" tooth and viceversa for the chickens. We are still looking for the perfect set up of feeding chickens and goats in the same place and we are working on dividing their barn into two sections.
An update on the kids. Wednesday is extremely attracted to his cousin Donkey. From the first moment they were together, all that Wednesday wants to do is make the heard bigger. We attempted to ban him yesterday, but we decided to wait until we can get a hold of a Vet that can castrate him for us. We definitely don't want to do it wrong. It is all simple in theory, put a rubber band around the scrotum. Yeah, not that easy. So, for now he is keeping his manhood for now. He is too short to impregnate the does, or that is what we know from what we see. He is still feeding from Asa from time to time. There arises our next dilemma: how to separate them to milk the does? Add one more project to the list. We have ordered the cheese making supplies from New England Cheese Company and we shall await for a strategy.Kehinde being curious as always but with a cautious disposition. She will try to approach you but as soon as you try to reach for her, she would retreat and analyze the situation. Of course, everything changes when we have a bucket of food. They love the pellets.
Kehinde will suck on my chin when she was younger, perhaps thinking that I was mom. I remember the first night trying to bottle feed her and man handling her a lot. Maybe that it is why she jumped on my back one day when I kneeled down to pet all the kids. I love her face markings. She looks like a super hero.
Last but not least, an update on the most popular kid. At least, that it was I think. Donkey started her journey with us, needing a little extra help. Nowadays, she is Miss Little Independent. We thought she was going to be at the end of the pecking order. To our surprise, she has started to head bump the others, specially Kehinde and even her arch enemy: Asa. Where ever Donkey goes, you bet Asa is near her, bumping her every chance she gets. Donkey knows this and runs as fast as she can away from her and kicking her legs, sort of show showing off. Extremely cute to watch.
