Beavers and phoebes

I finally had the time to go photograph some wildlife. Most of the time I don't have to go further than my backyard.  Having a nice lens helps too. While we were going for a walk with Fugee, we found a beaver dam.  We don't know for sure if it is still active.  The wood shavings near the chewed trees look pretty recent.  I hope that they are still there. I will check on the dam later in the summer. Photos follow.

All around the brook, I found chewed up trees that sort of reminded me of the goats and our apple trees.  Goats love to chew on the bark of our trees, but unlike beavers (that have 4 incisors, 2 in the top and 2 in the bottom) goats have only bottom incisors and they are sharp.  Goats love to eat the bark of birch and maple trees too.  Once the bark is gone, then the tree most likely die.  Goats also like to eat pine needles, hemlock leaves, ferns, moss and pine cones.

Near the entrance to where we think the beavers live, there are a lot of "snack twigs". They cache a lot of them for the winter. Seeing all these makes me hopeful of their residence. Fingers crossed.

Not sure of the bird or animal that made these holes on the bark of this tree.

Phoebe building his nest under the alcove.
We have a pair come back every year since we moved in.  They are very patient and don't mind getting spooked by us.
Green frog coming out for a tan and mating too.
